Instant-book vehicles are below. Vans and 7-9 seaters are usually arranged on request, so send your dates and group size for those.

Vans in Athens: scarce on the lot, easy on request

Here is the straight answer to "rent a van in Athens": 7 and 9 seaters exist, but they are the smallest slice of the local fleet and almost never sit unbooked in summer. Suppliers hold Vito, Traveller and Caravelle class vehicles against confirmed reservations, which means the van you want is booked, not browsed.

Send a search with your dates and group size through the form above. Suppliers reply with the people carriers they can position, including airport delivery. Three to four weeks of notice is realistic for July and August; off season, a week usually does it.

The two-car fallback

No van available for your dates? Two city cars from the live fleet often cost about the same as one 9 seater in high season, and parking two small cars in central Athens is far easier than parking one van.

It also splits the group across two sets of luggage space, which families with strollers appreciate.

Match the vehicle to the group

Seat counts are honest maximums with luggage on board, not brochure numbers.

Group Sensible vehicle Luggage reality How to book it
Up to 5 Compact or estate from the live fleet 3-4 cabin bags or 2 large cases Book directly from the grid above
6-7 7 seat MPV (Touran, 5008 class) All seven seats up leaves little boot: pack soft bags Request with dates, 2+ weeks ahead in summer
8-9 9 seat van (Vito, Caravelle class) Genuine room for the group plus cases Request 3-4 weeks ahead for July and August

Request

Search your dates, state the exact head count and luggage, and mention if you need child seats: Greek law requires them for under-135 cm passengers and vans carry a limited number.

Confirm

Compare the replies: seat count, insurance level, deposit terms and whether a second named driver is included. Long group trips go easier with two drivers on the contract.

Meet

The van arrives at your terminal or hotel at the agreed time. Walk around it together, count the seats and belts with the supplier, and load up: nine people move as one booking here.

Driving a van around Athens and beyond

A 9 seater is a motorway vehicle here, not a city one. The central districts of Athens mix narrow one-way streets with scarce parking, so the working pattern for groups is: use the van for the airport run, the hotel transfer and the day trips out of town, and switch to the metro for the Acropolis and Plaka days. Hotel parking or a garage on the edge of the centre keeps the van out of trouble.

Out of town is where the van earns its price. Delphi, Nafplio and the Corinth Canal are comfortable single-day returns on good roads, and the Peloponnese beaches swallow a week happily. Attiki Odos tolls apply per crossing, and ordinary passenger vans pay the car rate class posted at the plaza.

Ferries need the supplier's written consent, exactly as with cars. If your plan is a group crossing to Aegina or Evia with the van, say so in the request: some suppliers permit nearby islands, others do not, and knowing before you book beats renegotiating at the port.

Van hire questions

No. Passenger vans up to 9 seats including the driver drive on a normal category B car licence. Suppliers may ask for a minimum age around 23 to 25 and a couple of years of driving history for the larger vans.
The grid shows vehicles listed for instant booking, and van stock is usually held for requests instead. Submit the search with your dates and group size; suppliers answer with the vans they can commit for those dates.
Self-drive hire and driven transfers are different products. Several Athens suppliers offer both, so if you only need the airport-to-hotel leg, ask for a driven quote; for touring, self-drive is the cheaper week.
List the ages when you request the van. Greek rules require an appropriate restraint for children up to 135 cm, seats are fitted before handover, and each one is a small itemised extra on the quote.
